  The M8 is designed to deliver professionalresults over many years. The solid metalhousing is manufactured from a highly stablemagnesium alloy. The cover plate and baseplate are milled out of solid brass blocksand then chrome-plated either silver orblack. DNG technology has been chosenas the future-proof raw data format as itguarantees safe archiving for the long term.

  The lenses recognized as being the best inthe world also demonstrate their full performancewith the LEICA M8. The superb resolutionoffered by all lenses in the M systemsince 1954 makes them predestined for digitalphotography as well. The M8 has intentionallydispensed with a resolution-reducingmoiré filter before the sensor to ensure fulllens performance.

  The low-noise CCD image sensor has beenconsistently optimized for the special featuresof the M lens system and offers a highresolution of 10.3 million pixels. Specificcoordination of the sensor to microlensmisalignment avoids annoying vignetting inthe corners of pictures. An especially thincover glass prevents undesirable refractionwith oblique light.
• Full light efficiency
  The maximum sensitivity settings of up toISO 2500 now provide much more detailedimages than was ever possible with analogfilms. The M8 is thus opening up a newchapter in available light photography.
• Creative photography
  The electronic metal-blade slotted shutterprovides for exposure times of up to 1/8000second. Even in the brightest environmentsthe photographer has full freedom in imagecreation thanks to the use of selectivesharpness at open aperture. The short flashsync time of 1/250 second now also makesdaylight flash photography possible withselective sharpness.
• Quiet and discreet
  To ensure activation of the shutter is assilent as possible a rubberized quiet-actionfriction gear is used in the first speed increasinggear stage. The force is transmittedwith constant torque via a cam over theentire path of the activation arm. This resultsin a pleasantly quiet noise with electromotiveshutter activation.
